Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day - July 2010

What’s blooming in your garden on this beautiful mid-July day? Here are some of my flowers that are blooming at our place on July 15, 2010...I think this is a awesome way to share what is blooming in our gardens on the 15th of each month..so here I go..(check out the Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day blog above)

My flowers are doing really well this summer..we have had lots of 90 degree days and not very much rain..but I have been really faithful in watering and so they are all doing really well..

Here is one of my favorite hanging baskets ...white and purple petunias...
such a common flower but so pretty!!

I also have two porch boxes on the railing of our deck that are overflowing right now with cigar plants!!
scientific name Cuphea ignea. The species name ignea (also called the specific) is Latin for fire. This references the brilliant orange flowers that inspire this tropical perennial's common names like cigar flower and cigarette plant.

And of course another favorite...geraniums...these are the vining geranium and have bloomed continuously this summer. oh yes and the "official" name for geranium is pelargonium...

Here is one of our water lilies....they are so beautiful and really no maintenance!!

Lots of sedum around the flower beds and the rock garden..

And last but not least..lots of spider wort!! For years I just thought these were weeds until someone noticed them in my garden and wanted to know if they could have some of them!! :)

Okay..for the last photo..this one shows my new butterfly bushes first bloom..among lots of myrtle ground cover and on the very left of the photo is a Lenten rose that survived a Michigan winter..so far no blooms but I am hoping!!

Hope you enjoyed seeing some of the flowers that are blooming in my yard on

this beautiful July 15th!!
God Bless!!
